The Spa  >  Our Story

Serendipity Day Spa opened its doors September 27, 2004. Jessica Skop, owner, had a vision to create a spa atmosphere that was inviting to everyone. Shying away from the clinical scene of most day spas, Jessica found the location in Downtown Linden in the old Union Block to be perfect for her “dream day spa". The site itself was built back in the 1880s. It was restored to all the original brick walls, tin ceiling and hardwood floors. The charm of the building speaks for itself. After happening upon this location, Jessica had no choice but to name the spa “Serendipity". Definition: A fortunate accident or coincidence.

In just 2 ½ short years, Serendipity had a client base of just under 4000 clients and was awarded “Woman-Owned Business of the Year” for Genesee County. In May of 2007, Serendipity expanded and added a coffee shop that was due to open the third week in June. Unfortunately, a fire took over the entire Union Block on Friday, May 18th, 2007 at 6:30pm. The cause was unknown, and unfortunately it did destroy everything in the buildings.

Although devastating, the fire did not destroy the Serendipity Spirit. Jessica and manager Chrissy Rexin sought out a remote location at The Sleeman House located at 129 East Broad Street and with the help of the amazing staff and the community, reopened a week later.

After 2 years of hard recovering work, Serendipity had the ability to be able to expand to a second location in Michigan’s Little Bavaria, Frankenmuth!! Serendipity became the official spa of the Bavarian Inn Lodge and is proud to have a location in the owner’s hometown.

Serendipity has come so far since that fire and continuously strives for higher levels. Since the fire Serendipity has been awarded Outstanding Customer Service Award for the Fenton Regional Area, nominated for Entrepreneur of the Year for 2008, and awarded Mid-Michigan Best Massage for 2009! Jessica Skop has also been featured in Spa Plus magazine and tngworldwide magazine.

The goal behind the service of the staff at Serendipity is for all of our guests to feel as if they are our friends. We want our guests to feel welcome and invited as well as being pampered and nurtured. Our guest list is climbing quickly, which simply adds to our circle of friends. We desire to be that “get away” for our guests. Think of a time of laughter and sharing with your friends, and then think of us. On the flip side, we also offer extremely relaxing quiet treatments that allow our guests to escape from everything and everyone, hence our “Escape” Day Packages. Please feel free to check out our Spa Package link.

Thank you once again for taking time out to get to know a little more about us. We look forward to meeting you or seeing you again in the near future. Should there be any questions about our spa, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Wishing you health and happiness!
